Jens Sundbø Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 (edited) Kan noen hjelpe Franck Dubois fra Frankrike med CLUTCH Problem Bil : LR Defender 110 TD4 2,4 Puma (2009)Her er beskjeden fra han og beskrivelse av problem.Han er på vei sørover og trenger hjelp.mvhJens Hi, I'm new on the forum and I confess I logged in because I've got a problem. I'm french, owner of a Defender 110 TD4 (2009, Puma) and living in Norway most of the winters. I'm right now in Oksvoll (west of Trondheim) after a trip from Vesteralen and since 400km the clutch is making a weird sound and it's really difficult to change speed on the gear box . Not all the time, but more and more. I'm very bad at mechanics, and english also (don't forget I'm french). If anyone have at first a good advise, It might help. If anyone can help me around (as it's Easter and everything is closed), it might help more. I'm supposed to drive as soon as possible to Rjukan in Telemark which is 700km. Best, Franck (my norwegian phone is 904 15 958) Edited March 25, 2016 by Jens Sundbø Quote
WildRover Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Utløserlager muligens? Om ingen kan hjelpe, så skal det i verste fall være mulig å kjøre videre uten å clutche. Ikke enkelt, men mulig. Quote
fkdub Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Hi Thanks for your answer. If I well understand you think it might be the clutch bearings ... If it that, do you think it can breake and make dammage in the gear box ? I must drive at least to rjukan in Telemark, which is around 700km... I was thinking it could be also some air in the system of clutch oil ? Let me know what you think Best, Franck PS: sorry i do not speak norwegian (and use google translationfor norsk. Quote
WildRover Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Actually, I was really hoping someone more competent mechanics would answer during the day. Guess they are all on easter holliday ? Yes, clutch thrust/release bearing is what i meant. Since you mentioned a weird sound. But yes, it can also be some fault with the hydraulic system. Any leaks? Does the Defender have a separate fluid tank for the clutch? If so, how is the fluid level? And does the pedal feel normal, or is it possibly a bit soft? And the sound you mentioned, when does it occur and how does it sound like? In general, any fault with the hydraulics, or even a broken thrust bearing, shouldn't do any damage to the gearbox. Well, maybe it can, in a worst case scenario. But if the clutch don't release, you might damage the gearbox when shifting. On the other hand, it is possible to change gears without clutching, but only if you match road speed and engine speed perfectly. Please bear in mind I have absolutely none experience with Defenders, so I might be on the wrong track here. ? Quote
Quote
fkdub Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Hi , Thanks both of you (WildRover and Roar Moslet) for your answer. I didnot see any leaks. it seems there is a separate fluid tank for clutch (white top on the right side of the engine near the window). So I bought some DOT 4 oil at Gaz station and will check it tomorrow morning. The pedal feel the same than before, means tuff pedal, compare to normal car ! No difference since this problem. The sound when it happens (never all the time) is like a whistling when i push the pedal at maximum point. And then it's a bit difficult to pass another speed. I'm thinking to drive anyway to Telemark (700km) tomorrow using as less as possible the clutch. I can't wait until tuesday that a garage here will be open. And my plan is to fix the problem properly in a garage in Telemark. hope everything will be fine til Telamark. Thanks again for your help. Franck Quote
fkdub Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Hi again, I didnot have to refiled the oil tank, level was ok. I manage to reach Rjukan in Telemark without any troubles, using the clutch as less as possible. The problemn is still there. After a short talk with a friend of a friend (Rulf Dretvik in Trondheim, member of a Land Rover club in Trondheim), he thinks it's maybe the platters of the clutch. So now I'm looking for someone or a Land club or garage around (Tinn Komun in Telemark, nearby Notoden and Rjukan) who knows good about Land Rover and try to fix the problem. (Also maybe for the parts) It's maybe possible for me to drive to Normandy (2000km), but it's a risk I can't afford to take if the clutch fucks somewhere in the middle of Danmark or Germany. Thanks for your help, Franck Quote
truls Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 a good garage regarding landrover. http://www.1881.no/bilsalg/bilsalg-buskerud/bilsalg-roedberg/roedberg-veiservice-as_100218904S1/ Quote
fkdub Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Hi truls, Thanks for the tip. I'll check it tomorrow ...I forgot it's still Easter ! Maybe I'll post a new topic about this quest.... Franck Quote
fkdub Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Hi truls, thanks really for the contact, which was also provide by other people from the forum and my friends where I am in Rjukan. Seems William is definitively the Defender guy of the area. It took me a day to reach Rødberg as heavy snow blocked the road and I have to make an extra 200km to reach it. Norwegian life I learned in winter ! William said I might drive back without big troubles, but would be smart to get down the gear box to check the all clutch when back in France. best, Franck Quote
Kaldevass Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 If the box is coming down, change all the components, including the clutch, rubber hose from the fluid holder. Consider to change the seal behind the flywheel once all is down, these tend to leak. Its then a complete new system, and should last you some more years, Good forum friends did this for me a few months back when I needed the car and was away. Quote
