Velar Skrevet 27. september 2015 Del Skrevet 27. september 2015 Norway's Land Rover club will be holding the national gathering for next year in the town of Setermoen, in the period 19. - 24 july 2016. For the first time in the club's history (since 1975) the very northern branch will be hosting, so it will be the a Land Rover event extraordinaire! Located in magnificent scenery 500 kilometers inside the Arctic circle, Setermoen is an exellent start point for local daytrips. Some of these will be done as guided convoys. There will also be museums to peruse and hopefully we can get together some sea fishing trips. Local legislations dictate the curriculum in local drivers training must contain ice road driving, so there is a training facility near our venue. We are hoping to use it, so there might be an opportunity to take your fully laden Defender onto low traction conditins under controlled and safe circumstances. The facilities use sheet steel and cooking oil simulate low road friction. We are by this welcoming Land Rover friends from all over to join us for this special event. Aurora Borealis will be out of season, but midnight sun guaranteed (subject to weather)! More practical info will follow later. Velar Skrevet 13. januar 2016 Forfatter Del Skrevet 13. januar 2016 Should anyone in the UK consider joining our gathering and wish to travel by air, here is a short "How to" description. There is a choice of two carriers: Norwegian air shuttle and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). The former one being a budget airline and has its Norway departures from Gatwick. There is also an option using Ryanair in combination with any of the above mentioned, but this solution is far more convoluted and will only be described should anyone request it. Two examples using Norwegian air shuttle: Dep London Gatwick 18.07 at 0920; Via Oslo; Arrive Bardufoss same day at 1635 Dep Bardufoss 24.07 at 11:20; Via Oslo; Arrive London Gatwick same day 2000 Price booked today GBP 154 for one adult Dep London Gatwick 18.08 at 1020; Via Oslo; Arrive Evenes same day 2200 Sep Evenes 24.07 at 1105; Via Oslo; arrive London Gatwick same day 1625 Price booked today GBP 273 for one adult. Out of the two alternative destination airports, Evenes and Bardufoss, the latter seems cheaper and is also slightly nearer the event. Both airports have a selection of rental car companies. SAS is also an alternative, but Evenes seems the only option: Dep London Heathrow term 2 18.07 at 1020; Via Oslo; arrive Evenes same day at 1730 Dep Evenes 24.07 at 1105; Via Oslo; Arrive London Heathrow term 2 same day 1625 Price booked today GBP 301 for one adult Regardless of carrier, there is a change of planes and customs declaration in Oslo Gardermoen airport. A real nuisance, but doeable. Accommodation: The venue for the event is a camping site where huts in various sizes are available for rent. Book early as these are expected to go like hotcakes as the time draws nearer. There are also hotels in the nearby area, I will revert with info. tuko Skrevet 20. februar 2016 Del Skrevet 20. februar 2016 Hej, For bookings can I tentatively book a spot? The reason for the question is that I plan to be in Finnmark with my Series Hybrid during the same time ( v28- v29) but I can not say exactly what day I would be there or how long. mvh, Todd. Velar Skrevet 21. februar 2016 Forfatter Del Skrevet 21. februar 2016 Hi Todd; I assume you mean booking of a spot on the camping ground? This should be no problem, all that is required is that you phone the campsite as soon as you know your itinerate. I hardly think we will run out of room as the ground is quite large.
